How often do you get negative reactions from people due to the breed of dog you have?

I used to have a GSD and I got quite a few bad looks, people would cross the street when we would walk toward someone on the same sidewalk, some people would push their children aside so they wouldn't walk close to him. One time when I took him to the park (not a dog off leash park) my dog was on leash and a beagle that was off leash came and charged at him, attempted to bite my dog in the nose and neck and when my dog snapped back in defense the lady said ''why would you bring that disgusting mean dog to a park, he tried to kill my dog!'' Funny thing is her dog was off leashed and attempted to attack my dog. This GSD lived with my current 10lb Chihuahua and never touched her and was over protective of her. But does it matter that he never attacked a dog? Nope because he was evil and sent from hell :) One person even asked me why I would own a GSD dog and that I was a bad owner for getting one with a Chihuahua. I plan on getting a GSD again in the future. Then again people judge my Chihuahua saying she's most likely dumb and yappy when she is super quiet, smart, and well behaved more than most the dogs I've met.
